Melanie Safka - close-up.- .Most people know that Melanie's song "Brand New Key" was irreverently re-released by the Worzels as 'Combine Harvester'. What is not so widely known was that she was booked as the first solo pop/rock artist ever to appear at Carnegie Hall,the Metropolitan Opera House and the General Assembly of the United Nations, where delegates greeted her performance with standing ovations.
